Petrolera Transoceanica S.A. was incorporated on August 28, 1956. It began operations with the ‘City of Pucallpa’ tugboat, built at‘BURTON SHIPYARDS’, in Texas, U.S.A. Its maiden voyage was in May 1964. After several years, the ‘Manu’tugboat joined our fleet, enabling us to start working with Empresa Nacional de Puertos (ENAPU-Callao) at Piers 5, 7 and 11, because they were open docks. The‘Lachay’ tugboat was later was acquired in December 1995, this being a vessel built in England. In 1997, the ‘San Gallan’ tugboat was purchased to maneuver together with the ‘Lachay’ tugboat. In 1999,the ‘Calipuy’tugboat was part of our fleet, featuring much greater power. The ‘Ballestas’ and ‘Samanco’tugboats joined in the following years.
At the provincial ports, the company began to use 2 tugs for docking and undocking ships, as it was done in the Port of Callao. For this reason, the ‘Lachay’ tugboat was acquired in July 2001 for Compañía Minera Antamina’s newly opened terminal at Punta Lobitos, in Huarmey. Simultaneously, we started to perform rescue tows, with one of the first of these, being a tow operation from northern Peru to Chile. Over the years Petrolera Transoceanica’s tugboats fleet kept increasing. Certification was granted in July 2007, for five (5) of our tugboats: the ‘Calipuy’, ‘Lachay’, ‘Lobos’, ‘Cob’ and ‘San Gallan’; under the strictest ISM, ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 standards. This certification was granted by American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) Certification Agency. So, we became the first tug company in Peru to have these three certifications, in our Administrative Quarters as well as in our tugboats. By 2009, four (4) powerful tugboats were built at SIMA-CALLAO, meeting the requirements of the General Harbor Master and Coastguards Bureau, as well as the rules set forth by the American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) (‘Huari’, ‘Sechin’, ‘Cob’ and ‘Mochica’), shortly followed by the ‘Sechura’ and ‘Cuajone’ tugs; and finally, the azimuthal acquisitions: the ‘Andes’ and the ‘Cao’. Currently - and proudly -, we have a modern fleet of 14 tugboats and they all operate under our Integrated Management System.
